About the Author
Randy Leffingwell wrote his first book, American Muscle, in 1989 while still on staff at the Los Angeles Times. Since then, he has authored another 47 titles for Motorbooks and its sister publisher Voyageur Press, including Porsche 911 50 Years, Corvette 60 Years, and The Art of the Corvette. Leffingwell is considered one of the top Porsche historians working today, and he enjoys a close working relationship with Porsche AG. He lives in southern California, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles.

A beautiful picture book but not necessarily for mechanically inclined

This is a very nice book with a lot of beautiful pictures of the 911, from the beginning to 997. However I am somewhat disappointed that there is very little technical detail, beyond the customary "horse power, 0-60, top speed" stuff. The pictures are all of the exteriors, interiors and just a few engines from the open engine bays, and nothing at all for suspensions, chassis, all-wheel drive system, cutaways and etc., that show how they have "conquered the laws of physics".
If you want to enjoy the showroom views of the 911 over the years this is a great book, but if you are interested in the details of its mechanical evolution, this is not it.

THIS IS NOT AN INDEX/REFERENCE BOOK ON PORSCHE!

I was looking for an index style book on porsches. Something that would chronologically list each and every 911 ever made with a little paragraph and mechanical and statistical data. What I got was a very well written book and informative boook on the history of the 911 and the various models. But it's a book better read from cover to cover and not a reference guide where you can easily look up a model and year and read about that specific car. It's still a great book though and well worth the price tag.

Perfect Gift
By The Cleaning Lady
I spend every week, unwillingly watching Top Gear with my husband who spends the entire hour gushing over the Porsches. With that said, I knew a coffee table book of this kind would be the perfect gift. Shockingly, I couldn't find anything remotely close to this nice at the big box stores. I am so grateful I found this book for my husband, who is very difficult to shop for, because he never asks for anything. He loves the book so much that he actually leaves it out as if it were a piece of art!
